Hospitals can be a very scary environment for the elderly and a stressful time for their families. Many families are now geographically dispersed, and it can prove difficult for families to attend when non-emergency hospitalisation is required. Many people would welcome basic companionship during this time. The Patient Care Service will include activities such as:

• Spending time with the client before and shortly after a hospital procedure.
• Arranging any home-life appointments if any were left hanging in the rush to attend the hospital.
• Providing transportation when being discharged and back to the hospital for future visits.
• Visiting the client during hospital visits when no friends or relatives are available.
• Providing families with regular contact and updates during this time.
